Design process: strategy, system architecture, and concept
The fidelity where I’ve had the biggest impact and the one I feel most comfortable working in is at what I call the Lego wireframe level. These 400px wide sketches provide just enough resolution to sketch out everyone from tiny layout ideas to giant system architectures, and to do so quickly.
Like sketching or whiteboarding, I find these low-investment sketches to be a great way to get a product team together to collaborate and make decisions without the feeling of sunk cost. They’re small campfires where we can all gather around and talk about the future, what should, and what shouldn’t be.
With a basic kit of parts at hand that mirrors the components of a design system, these views can be created in minutes to iterate quickly until we get it right.
